This year’s Kansas City Ballet School (KCBS) Spring Performance runs Saturday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m at the beautiful Folly Theater. These performances feature students from both the Downtown and Johnson County campuses. Faculty and guest teachers have staged a diverse evening with students from Children’s Level 2 through the pre-professional students in the Kansas City Youth Ballet. Carmina Burana is one of the most requested ballets by Kansas City audiences. It explores the fickle nature of fortune in a theatrical and thrilling tapestry of dancers, vocal soloists, and the Kansas City Symphony and Chorus. The entire production is set to Carl Orff’s renowned heart-pounding score. Toni Pimble’s Carmina Burana shares the evening with Lynne Taylor-Corbett’s Mercury and Ben Stevenson’s End of Time. Together, these three works create a powerful and emotionally stirring evening.

A ballet about the transforming power of love, William Whitener’s A Midsummer Night's Dream is based on William Shakespeare’s popular comedy about the romantic misadventures of two mortal couples and the king and queen of the fairies. The program also features the return of Toni Pimble’s dynamic and breathtaking Concerto Grosso, plus Jessica Lang’s stunning pas de deux, Splendid Isolation III.
