JOY THAT KNOWS NO BOUNDS
Three sailors on leave in New York City make for great fun
in Fancy Free. Legendary choreographer Jerome Robbins’
first ballet, accompanied by the exuberant music of Leonard
Bernstein, sets the high-spirited tone for a spectacular evening
of dance. The ballet was such a smash hit, it was adapted for
Broadway and later for the movies as “On the Town,” starring
Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra.
Four additional ballets complete the evening — the classic audience favorite Allegro Brillante by George Balanchine plus three premieres including Triple Play by William Whitener
and new ballets by Artistic Director Devon Carney and Jodie Gates. Kansas City Symphony and
piano soloists perform the music of Tchaikovsky, Poulenc
